Birth Story:

So it started on Saturday night 8/3 around 10pm, I started having contractions but I could only see them happening, I couldn’t hardly feel them. I went to sleep and then woke up around 4 to the contractions amping up! I got up and took a shower (incase it wasn’t real labor) drank a lot of water and sat down to eat breakfast, right before this I told my husband, he probably should get the car ready…

I was eating breakfast and I had the worst contraction, I had to breathe through, it hurt the worst in my back (back labor is no fun) so after that, we headed to the hospital which was 1.5 hours away from my house. I was so scared I was going to be turned away, but when I got there I was a 3, so they kept me for an hour in triage and I dilated to a 4. This was around 10 on Sunday morning 8/4.

They moved me to a room and I labored there all day, I wanted to go unmedicated so I tried laughing gas (didn’t work because I did it too late lol). I wanted to try the tens unit but it wasn’t working, so I continued to labor and I had some water trickling out and we thought my water broke (should have know it hadn't since it wasn’t a gush) but I think my bag only ripped. Anyways, that made the contractions so much worse and at that point I was crying through the contractions. So around midnight I got the epidural, and my anesthesiologist was amazing!

After that I slept till about 4 am. Around shift change (on Monday 8/5), the new nurse came in to check me and I was only a 6. I was kinda disappointed. Right after that she went to putting in notes and my mom was just about to go get breakfast, when my water broke, the nurse checked me again and I was a 9.5, I had a one side of my cervix still stuck around his head so she put me in a doggy position and was shaking my bottom to get that lip to go. Well it worked and I was fully dilated!! I began some practice pushing and then a few mins later she’s like, you’re ready let’s go for it! So I was pushing for about 20 mins and then my doctor came in, about 20 mins more and baby boy was born!

I did tear but with the epidural I didn’t feel it anything. I healed great and he’s a happy 14 month old now!
